Some may say black stainless steel appliances are a trend that may not withstand the test of time, but hey, my mom had a white refrigerator for decades, and it’s still practical and stylish.
For this article, we’re looking for some background subtlety with a commanding presence. Kind of like when you painted your nails black to make a bold statement.
The appliances are not actually black. They are created from stainless steel and then coated in black oxide. Black oxide (also known as blackening) not only darkens stainless steel, but it also offers a bit of added protection.
When added to stainless steel, black oxide gives stainless steel a slightly darker shade, almost like a shadow. When added, again and again, the appliance begins to take on a glass-like black appearance.
This hue results from the stainless steel peaking through the black oxide. KitchenAid finishes the handles with their red 1919 metal plugs that give it class and elegance – we love this exquisite, artful detail on a home appliance.

Moon Jellyfish Aquariums
These brainless wonders are some of the most beautiful relaxing creatures to watch – and I’m not being sarcastic calling them brainless, they really have no brains!
Not a lot of anything else either being 95% water, but they’re incredibly poetic and relaxing to be around as they go about their gentle crawls along the currents.
These jellyfish are so soothing to watch that the Wynn Macau Hotel in China installed an amazing wall of them behind the registration desk. Maybe checking in takes a while.

Having pet jellyfish at home is easy to care for, just make sure you feed them daily and conduct a few simple water tests each week.
You will also change out some filters & some water and clean the interior of the tank but because they are mostly water, they are what they swim in, which means it’s important to keep the water clean. Here’s the rundown.
A little fun fact about these guys, did you know that moon jellyfish are actually meat eaters? Moon jellyfish love to eat mollusks and plankton, but also fish eggs and shrimp.
They have large stomachs and will eat whenever they find something floating by. Just don’t try to float a cheeseburger by- remember, we want to keep the tank clean!
